TO HELP YOU PREPARE
You’re booked. It’s official.
OMG I’m so excited to capture you, girl!
The reason I suggest all clients to book 1-3 months out is so that there's ample time to plan. You’ll feel more confident, less rushed, and overall empowered going into your photoshoot!
Because I like to make sure you have all you need to feel prepared, here’s a breakdown of what to do leading up to your photo session.
TWO MONTHS FROM YOUR SESSION
PREPARE YOUR BODY FROM THE INSIDE OUT
when you feel good on the inside, it shows on the outside, so now is a time to start nourishing your body if you don’t do this already. drink plenty of water, eat healthy meals, take probiotics, get outside for walks, meditate… fill. your. cup.
BOOK APPOINTMENTS
if you’re hoping to have fresh hair, fresh nails, fresh tox, fresh anything, be sure you schedule those appointments accordingly.
hair/nails/wax - 3-5 days before
injections - 1 month before
facials/peels - consult your esthetician
TAKE THE DAY OFF
your session date is going to be a day all about you so take the day off so you can fully enjoy it. that means request time off with your employer, give ample heads up/send cal reminders to any partner and line up those sitters if needed.
START OUTFIT PLANNING/REFERENCE MY STYLE GUIDE
the most important part in a photo shoot in my personal opinion is what’s being worn… or not ;) hehe. lucky for you i’m obsessed with this stuff so i’ve created an extensive guide that contains key messages to help influence personal style, tips for planning outfits and inspo from images all over for you to use as you plot for your portrait session.
ONE MONTH FROM YOUR SESSION
PLANNING CALL
i suggest scheduling your planning call with me about a month out so we can have enough time to plan/tweak outfits, and have our creative vision fresh for the day of. i’m happy to help assess your closet/what you have on this call and suggest items to find following. open to sharing links, virtual meets or in-person shopping!
MOOD BOARD INSPIRATION
i like to encourage all clients to source inspiration from all over and compile a handful of images to share. you can start a board on pinterest or screenshot/save some to add on the custom planning board i create for us to tweak and reference.
GLAM PREFERENCES
start thinking about what you’d like your hair and makeup to look like. a questionnaire will be shared where you’ll be able to note specifics. be sure any inspo pictures have your same hair/eye/skin color.
PRODUCT PONDERING
think about how you’ll want these images to be preserved. albums and prints are incredible options to ensure this experience and the art we create lasts decades and i highly encourage all clients to consider.
THE WEEK OF YOUR SESSION
CLOTHING TRY ON
make sure you’ve tried on all clothing so that in if something isn’t fitting right or you’re not feeling it, you have time to line up something else or get in a quick tailoring
GROOMING
exfoliate, wax/sugar/shave and moisturize
GET YOUR NAILS DID
i encourage you to stick to the classics and avoid choosing bright colors
SPRAY TAN/TAN PRECAUTION
spray tans can make skin look more on the orange side in photos so you definitely do not need to do this beforehand. if you do, please do it very lightly and be mindful of streaking. if you decide to regular tan, please be mindful of tan lines.
HYDRATE, HYDRATE!
we want that skin to glow so chugging water will help flush out any toxins in your body. and i know it’s not fun, but try to avoid alcohol if you can.
THE NIGHT BEFORE YOUR SESSION
FINAL OUTFIT REVIEW
try on all outfits one last time and make sure you love them
WHAT TO PACK
steamed outfits (if you can, but i’ll also have a steamer at the studio), shoes/accessories, water bottle, robe, deodorant, chapstick/fave lip treatment
PREP HAIR
wash and blow out your hair right before bed. this is especially important if you have fine hair, so it holds a curl or wave the next day.
PREP SKIN
lube up your body! and skincare, girl. maybe a little face mask action? zit cream if you need it.
GET A GOOD NIGHT’S SLEEP
drink some calming tea instead of wine and try not to let the pre-shoot jitters keep you awake, it’s going to be so fun, i promise!
THE DAY OF YOUR SESSION
TREAT YOURSELF
this is your day off so sleep in, eat a healthy meal, drink lots of water, do anything you need to calm any nerves and have your partner/family member help out with kid duties if any so you can attempt to have a low stress day
WHAT TO WEAR
lmarks from tight clothes can show up in photos, so wear something loose fitting (love a good no bra and sweatsuit fit)
TAKE YOURSELF OUT AFTER
you’ll be on a high after our time together so try to ensure you’re doing something fun after to make the most of it and enjoy your hair and makeup
